From Portoferraio enjoy a delightful drive to the southern mountainside village of Capoliveri. Being absolutely enchanting, Capoliveri preserves an almost medieval atmosphere in its architecture, sober at the same time as graceful and elegant. It is located in the southern parts of the island, in the heart of Elba's mining area, between the iron mines at Mount Calamita and Mount Ginevro.

From Capoliveri's panoramic point you can enjoy a superb view over the gulfs Lacona and di Campo, at the foot of a wild headland covered with bush, agaves and prickly pears. The coasts of Capoliveri are some of the most beautiful on the island, with overhanging cliffs, visited by thousands of sea gulls, and small bays with crystal-clear water. Now it is time for a delightful walk through the twisty old streets followed then by some leisure time to shop and browse around the tiny shops and boutiques of the village. Your next destination is the 17th century old country wine-farm “La Chiusa,” beautifully nestled in a vineyard estate surrounded by olive trees and overlooking the ocean: as any self-respecting mansion on Elba, it claims to have once housed Napoleon during his exile there – During your visit of the estate’s cellar see how the wine is handled and produced – A delicious wine sampling of the vineyard's “passiti” made from Aleatico and Ansonica, classic mainstays of the island will follow in the outside garden facing the sea , complement by assorted light snacks.

After enjoying this pleasant interlude, a short walk will bring you back to your waiting transport for your drive back to Portoferraio.

Enjoy an historically informative hike through the 'centro' section of Portoferraio, Elba's capital and largest city. Founded in 1584 by Grand Duke Cosimo I, the city was guarded in the Medici days by two massive fortresses, the Forte Falcone to the west and Forte Stella to the east.

From the pier, begin your walk through the ancient city gates toward the Forte Falcone. Once inside, there’s a spectacular view over Portoferraio and the gulf. Continue along the narrow cobblestone path that leads to the town's upper reaches and your next stop, the Napoleon Residence dei Mulini, where the famous French hero lived in exile for nine months. A visit to the emperor's apartments lets you imagine him reading his favorite books in the library, or contemplating his conquests in the small garden.

Resume your stroll to the Forte Stella, so named for its star-shaped design, then wind your way down toward the pier, with a brief visit along the way to the Church of Misericordia. Passing through the Medicean Sea Gate, or Porta a Mare, enjoy the ambience of the fashionable waterfront before returning to the yacht.
