Cable Car, Monte Palace Gardens & Toboggan Ride

This SeaDream adventure is a delightful and interesting opportunity to spend a few enjoyable hours on the island before you set off on your own explorations. Monte has been a favorite destination for visitors to Madeira since the late 19th century, when a rack and pinion railway was built up the hillside. The railway closed in 1939, but we are now given the opportunity to experience this trip in Funchal's newest addition - cable cars! The 15-minute panoramic cable ride affords wonderful 360-degree views before depositing you at the top of Monte Mountain. Once on top, another highlight awaits you. Upon arrival in Monte, the first visit will be to the delightful Monte Palace Tropical Gardens. Its history dates back to the XVIII century. The garden has ban area of 70.000m2 and is amongst the finest on the island. The Tropical Monte Palace is an excellent place to see a comprehensive collection of beautiful trees from all over the world. It also has several lagoons with exotic fish "Koi". You will have the opportunity to contemplate some marvelous panels with tiles that date back from the XVI to XX centuries. The gardens contain thousands of very different parts of the world, something for each visitor to enjoy. A glass of Madeira wine is offered before a fast exploration of the Monte church. Those who wish to experience the famous "snow less toboggan" ride down the mountain may partake (but hold on to your hats!), while those wishing to return directly to the SeaDream quayside may do so as well.

Notes Please wear comfortable walking shoes, as you will be walking through the amazing gardens. The cable car is not suitable for passengers with walking difficulties, as access is similar to a ski lift; i.e. the cable car does not stop for boarding but rather moves in slow motion. The Magnificent Alhambra

Discover the Alhambra - dramatic highlight of historic Granada on this unforgettable land adventure. The city is beautiful in its own right, but nothing in all of Spain compares to the wealth of architectural art to be found in the city's Muslim - Hispano complex - the 14th-century Alhambra. This breathtaking example of Moslem architecture is completely encircled by walls and towers - palaces, military buildings, a fortress and the administrative centers of a bygone era all lie protected within. Explore this remarkable structure on foot and marvel at the detailed mosaics, prism-style cupolas, and stone-cast latticework that speak to a surprising grace and sophistication. The nearby Generalife, surrounded by water gardens, was the residence of Kings in need of refuge, and in direct contrast, the stunning El Vino Gate commissioned by Carlos V is built in the purest Renaissance style of the 16th-century. By special SeaDream arrangement, a typical Spanish tapas meal with wine, bottled water and dessert is provided after your walk at the Ruta del Vileta restaurant at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The restaurant is a favorite of King Juan Carlos I during the skiing holidays of the Spanish Royal Family.

Notes The Alhambra is one of the most visited monuments in Europe! This fact, together with logistical restrictions on access for conservation reasons, means that it is not always easy, or possible, to obtain entrance tickets. This program is booked onboard only so please make your reservations as soon as possible after boarding to avoid disappointment. Once requested, this land adventure is non-refundable and only valid for the day issued! A minimum number of participants is required to operate this land adventure. The journey to Granada requires two hours. But do not be discouraged; the guides are very good and will keep you entertained as well as informed as you cross the Spanish countryside. Once in Granada there will be ample opportunity to walk as the gardens and the palace are explored on foot. The return journey is usually relaxed and quiet helped along by the Spanish wine served during your tapas break. This program is booked onboard only so please make your reservations as soon as possible after boarding to avoid disappointment. Malaga's Old City - Tour & Tapas

Get to know the old city of Malaga with a knowledgable local guide. Our yacht is docked at a palm-lined pier close to the center of the city. We leave the yacht in a small group of guests and start the walk to the old city of Malaga with our local guide. From Plaza de la Marina we proceed up Calle Larios, exploring the narrow side-streets. Our first stop will be at Plaza de la Merced where we visit Picasso's birthplace. We then pass the roman theater on our way to the Alcazaba. This grand Moorish fortification was built by the Berber ruler Badis Ben Habus in the mid-11th century on a hill in the center of the city, overlooking the port. After our exploration of the citadel we walk down to the typical tapas bar called Bodega "El Pimpi" for refreshment and tapas. We can recommend the sherry. Our guide will make sure we get back safely to the yacht.

Fashionable Costa Del Sol- Marbella & Puerto Banus

Less than an hour's drive from Malaga are the two most talked-about haunts on the Costa del Sol; Marbella and Puerto Banus. We drive along the coast passing the holiday resort of Fuengirola before arriving at the town of Marbella. Here we plunge into the past and visit the old quarter of the town with its narrow streets, whitewashed houses and heavy-grilled windows, centered around the beautiful Plaza de los Naranjos - Orange Tree Square, filled with stately buildings, small shops, art galleries, bars and bistros; a hub of activity day and night. Once a small fishing village, Marbella today is a fashionable and sophisticated resort, frequented by the rich and famous. Then, it's off to Puerto Banus, one of the most famous places in Andalucia, not to mention the rest of Spain and Europe. A designer resort of recent creation, the expensive shops, restaurants and yacht marina, reflect the wealth of its clientele. Puerto Banus is synonymous with wealth, fashion, and the highlife; it is the place to be and be seen. The area is lined with designer boutiques restaurants and hotels and the marina is home to large expensive yachts. Medieval Silves & Carvoeiro

On our tour today we discover the medieval Silves Castle and enjoy a nice Algarvian fishing village. The journey begins with an air-conditioned motor coach ride through this lovely peninsula region en route to the old town of Silves. Captured by the Moors in 713, the town was not finally re-captured by Christian forces until 1242, after changing hands several time. On arrival we will make a short walk up hill to the impressive Moorish castle and the outside facade of the partly gothic Cathedral, originally built by King Alfonso x of Castille. On the way down we will see the 16th century cross of Portugal. Then it's on to a dramatic hilltop village known as Carvoeiro. We wind our way slowly down the cobbled lanes to the village center - filled with colorful fishing boats, sandy coves and local outdoor cafes for some free time to browse before re-boarding the coach and returning to PortimU£o and SeaDream. A great overview of a seldom-explored area of Portugal.

Notes NOTE: Due to the amount of walking involved to the reach the town of Silves, a minibus with seats for up to 8 passengers will be at available to transport passengers with walking difficulties uphill. San Sebastian de La Gomera, Canary Islands

La Gomera, Scenic Beauty With A Whistle And Some Tapas

During this less active but no less scenic adventure option, discover the island's scenic northern and central parts. Following this enjoyable morning visit, you have the afternoon to explore the charming town of San Sebastian on your own. Leaving the pier, make your way to the North of the island until you reach the islands "Visitor Center." During your drive, there will be several stops to appreciate the stunning scenery. The visitor center is well worth a visit, offering you the opportunity to learn about the island including its unique fauna and flora. After about one hour, the next part of your journey will take you on ride through one of the oldest laurel forests worldwide, the star attraction of the island. So spectacular and unique is the forest that it was declared a national park in 1981 and UNESCO world cultural heritage in 1986. After several photo stops, we reach the Palmarejo Restaurant, designed by the famous architect Cesar Manrique. From this viewpoint you can enjoy a wonderful vista of the Valle Gran Rey; try not to take a picture. While at the restaurant, you will be treated to a delicious local snack " tapas! While enjoying your tapas, sit back and be astonished by a 5 to 10 minute presentation of El Silbo, a traditional language (!) based on whistling that was used on the island for communication prior to the arrival of telephones, roads and cars. The language almost came close to extinction but, apparently, it is now taught in school and used by a growing number of locals for any number of occasions; though we have been told by reliable sources that it is not used when flirting. Why not give it a try yourself " whistling of course. Fortified by the delicious tapas, your return drive will provide you with further amazing views of the fantastic landscape of La Gomera.

Notes Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring along a jacket, as it can get cold up in the mountains. Your adventure will return to the yacht after the lunch service onboard. We suggest that you enjoy a hearty breakfast this morning prior to your departure and if the tapas were not quite enough, sandwiches can always be found at the topside restaurant. Or, why not be adventurous and remain in town for an independent taste of the local fare; we hear that the wines are great too!
