  • Leticia

Leticia is a city in the Republic of Colombia, capital of the department of Amazonas, Colombia's southernmost town (4.09° south 69.57° west) and the only major port on the Amazon river. It has an elevation of 96 meters above sea level and an average temperature of 27 °C (80.6 °F). Leticia has long been Colombia's shipping point for tropical fishes for the aquarium trade. Leticia has approximately 33,000 inhabitants on the left bank of the Amazon river, and is located at the point where Colombia, Brazil and Peru come together in an area called Tres Fronteras. Leticia Town A long standing border dispute involving Leticia, between Colombia and Peru, was decided in 1934 by the League of Nations after these two nations were engulfed in an armed conflict known as the Colombia-Peru War. This was the first instance of action by an international body using its powers covered by the Monroe Doctrine. Tourism in Leticia has boomed and the town is today the second tourism destination for foreigners after Cartagena de Indias. International students travel to Leticia to learn Spanish at The Amazon Spanish College. Meanwhile students and visitors can enjoy the attractions nearby the city like Mundo Amazonico Ecological Park. Leticia has plenty to do with blocks of shopping, plenty of local souvenirs to buy, a small museum, we will use a good local bar as our base. There are lots very friendly people - everyone likes Leticia. Some visitors to this region may have been apprehensive at first later they realisedthat Leticia is a super friendly place. We have Land Adventure options for our call to Leticia. Please select the Leticia Land Adventure tab for a complete description.

  • Pebas

PEVAS/Pebas, is perhaps the oldest town in the Peruvian Amazon and lies downstream from Iquitos. It's an attractive, largely palm-thatched town and still a frontier place. The economy here is based primarily on fishing (visit the market where produce is brought in by boat every day), and dugout canoes are the main form of transport, propelled by characteristically ovoid-bladed and beautifully carved paddles, which are often sold as souvenirs, sometimes painted with designs. The Witoto and Bora Indians, largely concentrated around Pevas, actually arrived here in the 1930s after being relocated from the Colombian Amazon. They are now virtually in everyday contact with the riverine society of Pevas, producing quality artifacts for sale to passers-by and yet retaining much of their traditional knowledge of songs, dances and legends, plus significant ethno-pharmacological practice in rainforest medicine. A number of local Indian groups can be visited, including the Bora, the Witoto and the less-visited Ocainas. SeaDream guests will have an exploration of this village as well as exploring furtrher up the river to some of the indian villages. SeaDreamer's will also have the possibility to meet and witness the Famed Artist Francisco Grippa's home! Most of his work is actually exhibited in Iquitos at the Amazon Art Gallery, but others are on display in his home/gallery. The surrounding flood forest is home to hundreds of caimans and significant birdlife, including several types of parrots, eagles and kingfishers. This region is also for butterfly watching, the study of orchids and bromeliads in bloom and for its fishing – piranha being one of the easiest kinds to catch.

Yachting Land Adventures & Activities

  • Iquitos - City Adventure

Since the mid 1500's, when Spanish conquistador Francisco de Orellana explored the entire length of it in search of "El Dorado", the fabled source of Inca gold, to the late 1900's, when French marine biologist Jacques Cousteau, aboard the Calypso, revealed its rich natural history to the world, navigating on the mighty and mysterious Amazon River has been an alluring dream for explorers and travelers alike. Iquitos, the capital of Loreto, is the main port city on the Amazon River and the largest city in the Peruvian jungle. Different indigenous people groups like the Cocama, Huitoto, and Bora first inhabited the area. Then came the Jesuit missionaries who founded the city. At the end of the nineteenth century was when Iquitos experienced its greatest economic glory due to the rubber industry Visit the Main Square, heart of the city, congregates many people during the evening, chattering spot. In the center of the square is located a monument in remembrance of the death warriors of the "Guerra del PacUfico" (Pacific War). In the surrounding areas you will find the City Hall, the Cathedral, social clubs and commercial establishments. On route you will see La Casa de Fierro (Iron House), built by the French engineer Gustave Eiffel for the Exhibition of Paris in 1889 and bought by millionaire called Anselmo del Aguila, the one who brought it in pieces to Iquitos, including bolts and nuts, and assembled it on its actual location, north west of the Main Square. Located a block next to the Main Square is the Tarapaca Boulevard. It is a place of beautiful attractiveness with a magnificent view of a branch from the Amazonas River and Padre Isla, a bank of sand of almost 20 km. (12.4 miles) length making difficult to observe the total width of the Amazonas River. After the evening many people meet at the restaurants and centers of amusement of the Riviera.

This adventure is designed for guests with afternoon flights. This should be considered as a tour transfer to the airport or to your hotel of choice in Iquitos. This adventure is not possible for guests participating in the overland adventure to Machu Picchu. A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures and some have limited capacity. This program is booked onboard only so please make your reservations as soon as possible after boarding to avoid disappointment. All adventures and prices in the SeaDream Yachting Land Adventures program are subject to change.
