| Singapore | Lee Kuan Yew, first and longest reigning Prime Minister of Singapore, stepped down in 1990. Known as 'father of Singapore,' Mr. Lee's guidance unquestionably created an economic marvel and model safe society out of a chaotic post-war, post-colonial state. The rules are tough, but clear. Jaywalkers are fined on the spot. Drop litter – and you pay (smokers beware!). Explore the city-state's impressive modernity and tradition in its architecture. I.M. Pei's striking Gateway and Moshe Safdie's Marin Bay Sands point the way to the future, but don't miss the handsome Old Parliament House. |
| Malacca, Melaka | According to official records Malacca was established in 1390AD, but the year could have been any between 1376 and 1400. It seems more certain that Prince Parameswara was the founding father – according to the embellished tale, he decided upon the site during a hunting expedition when a small mouse grew so fierce in defending itself against his hound, it attacked and drove the larger animal into the river. The prince was sitting beneath a Melaka tree as he observed the spectacle, and so named his new city. Learn about Dutch Colonial heritage on a SeaDream Land Adventure. SeaDreamer's can also enjoy a round of golf at a local country club. |
| Pangkor Island (Pulau Pangkor) | Pulau Pangkor, just off the central Malaysian coast was probably first settled when refugees fled in the path of powerful armies that swept along the peninsula. Later, with expanding European spice trade, pirates discovered hidden Pangkor coves, but modern 'settlers' gather to enjoy sun and sand at places like Pantai Puteri Dewi, Teluk Belanga, and Pasir Bogak. There are also quiet coves at Tortoise Bay, Teluk Nipah and Teluk Chempedak. The main island town is known as Pangkor Village, but beaches and plush resorts are the main attractions. |
| Pinang Island (Pulau Pinang) | One of 13 Malaysian states, Penang Island is just 110 sq mi/285 sq km in size. Once dominion of the Sultan of Kedah, it was always more or less an independent place until the British Raj arrived. In 1786, Captain Francis Light acquired Penang from the Sultan on behalf of the British East India Company. Georgetown is a pleasant place of colonial architecture and atmosphere. Fort Cornwallis' weathered walls are just about the center of town, and the fort – Captain Light's landing site – is one of Penang's oldest English structures. Your SeaDream Land Adventure takes you to explore the local culture or swim at a fine local beach. |
| Langkawi Island (Pulau Langkawi) | Long a secret backpacker's destination, Pulau Langkawi, largest member of the 99-island Langkawi Archipelago is the doorway to Malaysia's most spectacular jungle wilderness. Fairies once gathered in the ponds below Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) Waterfall, just 45-minutes from the port. According to local lore, the ponds' curative powers spring from this magic. Among the island's other natural wonders in the region, 2,890-ft/880-m Gunung Raya is the tallest natural formation. Another tale recalls that it is the petrified remains of Mat Raya, a fearsome giant who once terrorized the land. |
| Lanta Yai Island (Ko Lanta Yai) | Ko Lanta Yai is popular with tourists seeking a holiday away from the parties. It's popular with a more mature crowd than nearby Ko Phi Phi: more walking on the beach and watching the sunset than drinking and dancing. Ko Lanta is a little less well-known than Ko Phi Phi, which has become more commercialized and corporate, but it is hardly undiscovered: the several beaches on the west coast of Ko Lanta Yai are each strung with a line of resorts and bungalows, although the farther down the island you venture, the less this is true. And even when the island is at its fullest, there will be a quiet place for you to relax - the beaches are never full. |
| Phi Phi Don Island (Ko Phi Phi Don) | As striking as it is tiny, Ko Phi Phi is shaped by dramatic cliffs and sparkling sugary white sand. A flat sand bar links the eastern and western island sections. Two bays: Ao Ton Sai and Ao Loh Dalum, offer sheltered spots for those who want to enjoy sun and surf. Not surprisingly, it is also the island's main resort area. Rent a jet ski or ride a parasailing kite while it is fairly safely tethered to a boat. |
| Patong Bay (Phuket) | Roughly the size of Singapore, Phuket is widely known for its fine resorts, but it also showcases traditional Thai culture and a spectacular natural interior. Sheer limestone crags thrust from scenic Phang Nga Bay off the island's northern tip, creating a peaceful refuge from 'it all.' For another kind of Thai serenity, visit South Phuket's Wat Chalong. Its Grand Pagoda, one of the island's most revered sites, preserves a fragment of Lord Buddha's bone. After touring, curl up on a quiet section of Ao Patong (Patong Beach), on the southwestern shore. Join your fellow SeaDreamer's for a Phang Nga cruise or find your inner James Bond aboard ... an elephant! The yacht has also arranged several other Land Adventure possibilities including an excursion to one of the island's world-class golf resorts.. Diving Thailand's Best Site
Visit one of the most beautiful diving sites of Andaman Sea - Hin Daeng & Hin Muang. Arguably the best in Thailand, these two pinnacles decorated with different types of hard and soft coral, are located a good distance from land and are surrounded by deep water. Manta rays and whalesharks are frequent visitors. A speedboat will take you to the Dive boat for changing, preparation and dive briefing. Your first dive will be at Hin Daeng, which protrudes out of the water by about three metres and although not very impressive to look at topside, underneath the water the rock is huge. Here the soft coral is tall and lush, schools of jacks sweep past in a shimmering wall of silver. Ascending to the shallows you can see needle fish (long toms) skipping along the surface, and barracudas stalking their prey through the underwater world. After the dive, enjoy your sumptuous lunch on board and take a small break while traveling to the next diving site. Your second dive will be at Hin Muang which is located just a few hundred metres from Hin Daeng and lies completely submerged. The name Hin Muang is derived from the thick purple growth of soft corals that are everywhere you look. The rock itself is approximately 200 metres long and less than 20 metres wide, and is shaped like a loaf of bread with steep, vertical sides and a rounded top. The walls are decorated with large sea fans in colours of red, white and orange. An incredible amount of marine life surrounds and lives upon this rocky pinnacle. Return to your dive boat and cruise back by your speedboat to your ship.
