Many attractions of Northern Corsica including its scenic landscapes, charming Bastia, an exciting drive along the scenic Teghime pass and a taste of Corsica's wines. This excursion will be a combination by foot and coach. During this adventure you will discover the old town and the proud citadel, the cathedral Ste Marie, the governor palace and the old port. Nowadays Bastia is the main town of north Corsica, and also the biggest commercial port of the island. Under the Genoese administration, Bastia was the capital of the whole island, and was very rich thanks the numerous vines, olives & chestnut trees plantations. Being also the nearest port to Italy, the town became an important trading call. While walking through the narrow streets, you will soon discover some signs of a rich and interesting past. Pass through the square St Nicolas, the meeting point of all the population. You will pass the Terra Vecchia which goes from the place St Nicolas to the old port, through un-regular paved streets, passing nice little chapels and oratorio in baroque style like the Oratoire St Roch, or the "flamboyant' Oratoire de l'Immaculee conception, arriving at the church St Jean Baptiste famous for its twin campaniles. Back on the coach, you will reach Erbalunga, located 9km from Bastia yet a world away. This cosy fishing village have been the inspiration for numerous painters and poets. Following a brief introduction to the village, free time will be allocated to browse its picturesque narrow streets which are closed to traffic. Return to Bastia and the yacht.

Taking its name from the thick mist which sweeps over the region, the Nebbio has for centuries been one of the most fertile parts of the island. Formerly called "Conca d'oro' (golden shell) by Pascal Paoli, it is now reputed for its very nice wines from Patrimonio. Along the drive, magnificent views will come to your eyes, down the St Florent's gulf and the Patrimonio's vineyards on one side, and the Tyrrhenian sea & Biguglia's pond on the other side. Leave the town in direction of our little St Tropez: St Florent. Drive along the Biguglia pond, to the San Stefano pass, through Oletta and its multi-coloured houses. In St Florent, enjoy a visit and stroll through the narrow streets bordered by souvenirs shops. Then, leave St Florent in direction of the mountain of the Patrimonio region, reputed to be the best place for wines. Stop in one of the local cellars for a wine tasting, and discover their white, rose or maybe a sweet muscat! Passing the Teghime pass, you will be back in Bastia.

From the pier, follow your guide to the entrance of the citadel, perched on a rocky hill overlooking the port. Walk through the drawbridge and stop to enjoy a breathtaking vista of the red rooftops and the crystal clear sea. You will continue to the Place d'Armes and then to the Cathedral St Jean Baptiste set at the highest point of the promontory. The cathedral founded in the 13th century, was partially destroyed during the Turkish siege in 1553 and rebuilt in a form of the Greek cross. Your walk will then take you to the home of Calvi's most famous resident, Christophe Columbus who is believed to be born in Calvi on October 12th. After viewing the exterior of this fabled building, pass the 13th century Caserne Sampiero, formerly the Governor's palace which now served the military. Make your way to the Oratoire St Antoine where you can admire Italian frescoes, stroll along the city's ramparts and wander through the Ville Basse. A Bustling section of the town sitting at a foot of the ramparts, The Quay Landry features a lovely marina and a cafe lined promenade.

This pleasant half-day Land Adventure winds through some of the island's most picturesque villages and landscapes, and, also allows for some free time to walk through one of the islands most charming villages. Don't miss this opportunity to explore the island beyond the lovely port of Calvi. A more detailed description is shown below. Start out with a drive through the Balagne region as you travel along a scenic road that takes you through Calenzana, a village overlooking some of the most fertile land on the island. The lively village centre is built around the Piazza Communa, a pleasant tree lined square dominated by the heavily Baroque Eglise St Blaise founded in 1691. From there continue on to the Romanesque "Chapelle de Santa Restituta," an important pilgrimage site in Corsica. The road then snakes leisurely through several more villages, such as Zilia and Cassano as you enjoy lovely views along the way. Arriving in Lunghignano, we stop for a visit of a donkey-pulled olive oil mill and enjoy a sampling of the product. Then, in Montemaggiore, admire the view from the foot of the baroque church of Saint Augustin before exploring its 17thcentury artistic treasures and impressive organ. Onward enjoy the views from Col de Salvi and Cateri -with its flowered balconies, and San Antonino where we pause for a welcome local snack for you to taste the local bread, cheese, and sausage along with a glass of wine or soft drink. Finally pass the interesting church of Aregno with its multi-colour walls and unique sculptures before stopping in Ile Rousse where free time is afforded for browsing. Perched at 900 meters above sea level, just under the fortress peak of Mont Agel (1148 meters), Monte-Carlo Golf Club is in fact located in France rather than in Monte Carlo itself. The relatively steep climb up to the Club from La Turbie, does not deter its rich and famous members from making the journey, especially with a well-laid out course, elegant and comfortable clubhouse and stunning scenery waiting. The views out onto the Mediterranean, along the French and Italian Riviera's and inland to the mighty Alps will brighten up any golf round, no matter how your golf swing is performing. Willie Park Jr's original design has stood the test of time, creating an enjoyable and playable course that includes plenty of elevation changes, rolling fairways and clear to see golfing challenges - awkward blind shots are rare, but inevitably there are one or two. Excellent quality greens are stoutly defended by good bunkering, and the well-groomed fairways usually provide enough room for maneuvering, but do tighten-up on some holes. Within the layout's natural, parkland environment, there are some slopes to climb, but it would be wrong to call this a mountain course. The back-nine arguably contains the best holes, especially as you move into more open terrain at the tumbling par-4 13th. From Portoferraio enjoy a delightful drive to the southern mountainside village of Capoliveri. Being absolutely enchanting, Capoliveri preserves an almost medieval atmosphere in its architecture, sober at the same time as graceful and elegant. It is located in the southern parts of the island, in the heart of Elba's mining area, between the iron mines at Mount Calamita and Mount Ginevro. From Capoliveri's panoramic point you can enjoy a superb view over the gulfs Lacona and di Campo, at the foot of a wild headland covered with bush, agaves and prickly pears. The coasts of Capoliveri are some of the most beautiful on the island, with overhanging cliffs, visited by thousands of sea gulls, and small bays with crystal-clear water. Enjoy an historically informative hike through the 'centro' section of Portoferraio, Elba's capital and largest city. Founded in 1584 by Grand Duke Cosimo I, the city was guarded in the Medici days by two massive fortresses, the Forte Falcone to the west and Forte Stella to the east. From the pier, begin your walk through the ancient city gates toward the Forte Falcone. Once inside, there's a spectacular view over Portoferraio and the gulf. Continue along the narrow cobblestone path that leads to the town's upper reaches and your next stop, the Napoleon Residence dei Mulini, where the famous French hero lived in exile for nine months. A visit to the emperor's apartments lets you imagine him reading his favorite books in the library, or contemplating his conquests in the small garden. This walking exploration of Portovenere will leave you feeling like a local. In close proximity to the famous towns of Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta and with the great panorama of the Alpi Apuane there is on sea level a golf course that is exceptional in many aspects. As soon as you arrive to the resort you can sense that this will be something special. The course itself is relatively flat but very nicely arranged. Fairways and greens are best kept in all seasons. This, course also sports a number of water hazards some of which can be truly tricky, where a good golfer needs all of his concentration, the hobby-golfer might need a bit of luck. Where fairways will be in parallel they will be nicely separated by rows of trees and bushes, there should not occur major interferences. All in all a course that has its challenges for any kind of handicap and that in any event will ensure the player a few hours in a best looked after environment. Versilia, like a number of other courses in Tuscany, is hosting many national and international tournaments. From its lofty perch, high above the town of Sainte Maxime, this immensely scenic and always testing golf course offers stunning views out across the bay and across to St Tropez. Transforming this hilly and at times difficult terrain into a playable layout was impressively accomplished by the Harradines (Don and Peter), although the accurate shot-maker will certainly fare better here than the wayward big-hitter; from the outset there are several tightish drives to make. The front-nine loop is played down into a valley, where villas flank the course perimeter, but rarely are they in range. Water threatens on only two occasions. At the downhill par-3 7th, an attractive pond dangerously fronts the putting surface. The same pond must be crossed again as you tee-off at the superb short par-4 8th, a hole which then requires an accurate uphill approach shot to a green encircled by small rocky cliffs. The more elevated and fabulously scenic back-nine retains many natural stretches, with wonderful views onto the Mediterranean, and inland to the forested hills and peaks of the Massif des Maures. First timers to the course may think the uniformly circular greens are generally quite flat, but beware, these perfect circles are often wickedly inclined. Between the 10th and 11th holes you'll pass an old cable car that once ferried golfers up to the 11th tee; mandatory buggies now perform that task. Although maintenance could be a tad better in places, Sainte Maxime's spectacular views and challenging layout make this a must play course for visitors to France's incomparable Cote D'Azur.
