BRIKSDAL GLACIER LAKE SAFARI
Join in a truly unique experience! From the village of Olden, situated at the end of the innermost arm of the lovely Nordfjord, we drive up the valley past the small Floen Lake, then along the long and narrow Olden Lake, one of Norway's most beautiful lakes, to Rustoen at the far end where colorful farms cover the wide fertile upper valley. On both sides numerous waterfalls descend from the ice field, and in front of us we see the long white tongue of the Melkevoll Glacier. The road ascends through woodlands to the Briksdal Inn at the end of the road. Here we will leave the bus and start walking the approx 2,5 km to the Briksdal Glacier Lake. The track crosses the river and climbs at times steeply in zigzags above the falls to the top. At the lake at the foot of the Briksdal Glacier, rubber dinghies are waiting for us and we are fitted with life vests, rubber boots and oars. We then paddle in the green glacial water amongst blocks of ice that have broken off the glacier and explore the majestic blue ice of the glacier. At the conclusion of the paddling we walk back via the same road to the Briksdal Inn where a refreshment break is made before we return via the same road to Olden.
Notes: Please note that for passenger’s safety, the rafts will not go closer to the Briksdal Glacier than 75 meters. The lake’s outlet is secured by wire and ropes. The glacier water is very cold and the amount of ice floating on the lake will vary. Comfortable walking shoes and a warm jacket are recommended. A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures and some have limited capacity.
