Yachting Land Adventure

City Adventure

Since the mid 1500's, when Spanish conquistador Francisco de Orellana explored the entire length of it in search of "El Dorado", the fabled source of Inca gold, to the late 1900's, when French marine biologist Jacques Cousteau, aboard the Calypso, revealed its rich natural history to the world, navigating on the mighty and mysterious Amazon River has been an alluring dream for explorers and travelers alike. Iquitos, the capital of Loreto, is the main port city on the Amazon River and the largest city in the Peruvian jungle. Different indigenous people groups like the Cocama, Huitoto, and Bora first inhabited the area. Then came the Jesuit missionaries who founded the city. At the end of the nineteenth century was when Iquitos experienced its greatest economic glory due to the rubber industry Visit the Main Square, heart of the city, congregates many people during the evening, chattering spot. In the center of the square is located a monument in remembrance of the death warriors of the "Guerra del PacUfico" (Pacific War). In the surrounding areas you will find the City Hall, the Cathedral, social clubs and commercial establishments. On route you will see La Casa de Fierro (Iron House), built by the French engineer Gustave Eiffel for the Exhibition of Paris in 1889 and bought by millionaire called Anselmo del Aguila, the one who brought it in pieces to Iquitos, including bolts and nuts, and assembled it on its actual location, north west of the Main Square. Located a block next to the Main Square is the Tarapaca Boulevard. It is a place of beautiful attractiveness with a magnificent view of a branch from the Amazonas River and Padre Isla, a bank of sand of almost 20 km.
